Carlos Sáez Salgado

Carlos Sáez Salgado started working at Sagilda - Sabões Garantia, Lda, in Caldas da Rainha, in 1967, invited by his father Jaime Sáez Buceta, chemical engineer and owner of the company.

Founded in 1955, Sagilda started its production with traditional offenback soap molds. Two years later, the factory purchased an automatic CL-LBC line from Mazzoni, Italy, and started continuous soap production. With this line, the factory produced not only offenback soap, but also other types of soap such as soap noodles.

At the same time, Jaime Sáez Buceta, started the production of cosmetics under the brand Lander. However, he created formulas of his own, more in line with the European market, both in terms of product quality, novelty, and image. In this sense, Sagilda began to represent the American patent which was commercialized by the company Foz Cosmética, Lda, based in Lisbon.

The managing partner, engineer Jaime Sáez Buceta, innovated Sagilda's contracts with several renowned companies in the same field, namely with the Portuguese Lever and Colgate Palmolive, in the production of soaps and cosmetics. Thus, manufacturing varied cosmetics such as the famous Lander, Rexina, Rexona, Fa, Tahiti soaps, or the stick deodorants, creams and milks, hairspray, lipsticks, Lander varnishes, and Policolor hair dye.

The demand that engineer Jaime Sáez Buceta had in the exercise of his profession, both in cosmetic production and in the commercial part of his company, is a paradigm in the professional path of his son Carlos Sáez Salgado, acquiring a global vision of that industry and of the various sectors, where he operated cosmetic production, analysis, and the commercial sector.

For 50 years dedicated to the soap production and cosmetics industry, Carlos Sáez Salgado has travelled the world, learning and making known all the complexity of the soap production industry, specializing in the production of soap base. Starting from the knowledge of blending the various types of oils, for each type of soap, in cosmetics and perfumes (Switzerland) and solid and liquid detergents (Israel).

Performed a specialization at Perfumeria GAL, Madrid - Mazzoni LB continuous saponifier, producing 5,000 kg/hour of soap;

He started the assembly and start-up of the company Congeral - Companhia Geral de Angola, Luanda - with a continuous saponification SCN Mazzoni LB, a glycerine water evaporation plant, Mazzoni LB, with saponification boilers, with two CL-LBC Mazzoni LB Lines, with a production of 50.000 Kgs/day of offenback soap;

Started the assembly and start-up of a CL-LBC Mazzoni 4 Tns/hour offenback soap production unit and a BAR SOAP FINISHING LINE MAZZONI LB at Rogério Leal & Filhos, S.A., and Socipole, S.A., plants in Portugal.

Produced 12,500 Tns/year of offenback soap, with a CL-LBC Mazzoni LB line, at Sociedade Nova de Sabões, in Lisbon, Portugal;

Produced soap and coconut oil, at Socomil, Lda., in São Tomé Island;

Started a new factory, with a COMIS offenback soap production line, at Saboaria Estrela do Dão, in Nelas, Viseu, Portugal;

He was invited by Givaudan Company (Geneva, Switzerland), to give and execute, a technical opinion on the introduction of perfume, soap, from a manufacturing unit in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In 1985 he established Carsal, Lda., a company specialized in the trade of animal by-products, namely, RBD oils, of vegetable and animal origin, saturated hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated and various types of distilled fatty acids, based in Torres Novas, Santarém, Portugal.

In 2000 began importing soap noodles to Portugal from Malaysia and Indonesia. Currently, it is also dedicated to the trade of hydrogenated RBD oils of vegetable origin, and distilled fatty acids, for the candle industry.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Selects blends and performs laboratory analysis of any types of oils for production of various types of solid soap, at the various stages of the production process (saponification, washing and settlement) and final product.

Performs laboratory quality control in the various stages of the process and final finishing, in the production of any type of soap.
